The deadlock between the farmers and the administration here was over on Saturday with the administration acceding to most of the farmes' demands.

Additional Chief Secreatry (ACS) Devender Singh and farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni held a joint press conference.

The ACS said the government would hold an inquiry into the lathicharge by a retired judge. The ACS did not mention the compensation demanded by the farmers for the deceased and those injured.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
