Trumpism Needs To Be A Focal Point Of Midterms For Democrats
Published at : September 06, 2021
Even if Democrats have the accomplishment of passing the reconciliation bill to run on, that will not be enough to save them in the midterm elections in 2022. They need something that will rally their base to the polls, similar to the turnout in 2018. The specter of Donald Trump still looms large in the minds of American voters. The Democrats should focus their strategy on Trump and Trumpism if they want to hold onto Congress.

Sam: I’m not an accelerationist but things like this Texas law make me feel like we're in the apocalyptic or accelerationist timeline whether we like it or not. Any tips for avoiding doomerism? I don't feel like my rant just before this helped. I don't know I mean if you want me to reach? I’ll reach. I really believe that the Democrats for the midterms need to put Donald Trump forward. They need to lean into Donald Trump and Trumpism. And they need to I mean they need to do other things too. But I don't think you're gonna get a situation where you know there's only so much they can do at this point. I’m talking from an electoral standpoint. Because you know Sinema and Manchin are what they are. And I would like to see you know Biden get in there and get rid of the filibuster. At the very least for voting. But I don't know if there's a material package beyond the infrastructure bill. Because that's huge. This is going to be the biggest material benefit if it passes. And I’m talking about reconciliation. The biggest material benefit that Americans have seen in a decade at least. I mean you could argue that maybe you know medicare and Medicaid expansion was bigger in some respects. But I don't think so. This is going to be huge. I don't know that it's going to be sufficient to drive out voters in the midterms. People vote sadly on you know partisan what did they call it anti-anti you know again it's polarized and anti-partisan sentiment. And the more that Donald Trump is associated with these republicans the more you're gonna drive people out. You also may see the suburban women who came out in 2018 in a big big way might be hopefully motivated by this as well. We'll see. We'll see. So that's avoiding the doomerism.
